DESCRIPTION:Rock Wall Climbing Competition at LH\n\nWe are holding a competition for all of our Rock Climbing enthusiasts at Liberty Harbor! On June 8th we will have fun while competin! Register to enter the competition\, and use the next two months to practice the routes! This competition is free to enter.\n\nGravity Vault Hoboken will be holding a tabling event as well\, so all rock climbing enthusiasts and novices are encouraged to join.\n\nYou MUST be auto-belay certified for the wall to enter the competition. To get belay certified\, you must come to one of our certification classes. If you haven’t gotten certified yet\, we will have a class every two weeks leading up to the competition. Each climber has to carry a scorecard and give it to a judge or spectator before each attempt.\n\nBETA: Climbers may discuss beta (information or advice about the climbs) in between attempts\, or when the climbers are on the wall. Climbers may also watch the other competitors’ attempts to learn about the climbs.\n\nSCORING: Each route will have a point value. The score you will receive if – and ONLY if- you top it. At the end of the competition\, only the top 5 scores on your scorecard will be counted. Take time to learn the routes that you want to climb: warm-up climbs\, ‘safety’ climbs and try-hard climbs.\n\nBe selective about your climbs. Once you are warmed up\, don’t waste time and energy on climbs that are way too easy. Be strategic from the beginning by finding 4 ‘safety’ climbs that you are fairly confident you can top on the first try- but also have decent point values. Once you have those 5 scores in place\, you can work on your try-hard climbs with higher point values to replace those ‘safe’ scores with better ones.\n\nTake breaks. It’s common to hit a wall after an hour or so of a rock climbing competition. If you feel yourself getting frustrated\, take a breather. Have a snack\, drink some water\, and take a step back for a few minutes. Rest long enough to regain a positive attitude and get back some of your energy. Pace yourself.\n\nManage your time. Pay attention to which climbs have long lines and which do not. Remember\, only tops count in this competition. Only get in a long line if you are fairly sure you can climb to the top and the point value is worth the wait.\n\nMake every attempt count. Try every method with 100% effort\, or you won’t know if that beta will work for you or not. If you fall\, learn from the attempt\, and make adjustments accordingly. A good rule of thumb: If after 3 tries\, you are not confident you will top the climb in the next 1-2 attempts\, move on to something else (you can come back to it later). Also\, attempts factor into tie breakers. In a tie\, the climber with fewer attempts will prevail.\n\nRelax and enjoy your climbing. Focus on gaining profitable experience on these competition-style climbs. Don’t worry about placement. Just have fun\, and concentrate on climbing\, not competing.

DESCRIPTION:  \nNeighbors are welcome and much-needed for our fall bulb planting. We have over 2000 bulbs which need to go in the ground for a spring blooming! Join us for messy fun and gardening\, as we plant in the beds around LH. \nFrom 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. across from 30 Regent we will meet to plant daffodils\, tulip\, grape hyacinth and normal hyacinth for a colorful spring. Bring gloves and tools (if you have them). We have enough gloves and trowels for the first 20 people who RSVP. Wear comfortable long pants\, clothes you can muck up\, sturdy shoes and sunscreen. Young volunteers must be accompanied by their parents. \nWHERE: We’ll meet at 30 Regent\, next to the park\nDATE: Sunday\, November 11\nTIME: 9am – 11am \nPlease keep an eye out for an RSVP email invite.
